The Rats of Tobruk.

Tobruk was a port town, important it seems,

For Rommel and Germany and expanding world dreams.

Hold Tobruk and the advantage was over to you,

And Taking Egypt and the Suez Canal would be easier to do.

Now the allies recaptured Tobruk in one single night,
But to be honest the Italians weren't up for the fight,
But now that they held it, it was theirs to defend,
And they'd have to fight hard, yeah, right till the end.

So let's sing the praises of the Rats ofTobruk,

For eight bitter months the sky and earth shook,
But the mighty Rats they would not bend nor fold,
And their motto was simple "What we have we hold."

Well Rommel he tried every trick in the book,
But he could not defeat the mighty men of Tobruk.

It was the spirit of mateship that saw them right through,
You fight for your mates, that's just what you do.

So let's sing the praises of the Rats ofTobruk,

F or eight bitter months the sky and earth shook,
But the mighty rats they would not bend nor fold,
And their motto was simple, "What we have we hold."

Lord Haw-Haw was a broadcaster, a traitor at that,
And he said that the diggers were like "Rats in a trap."

"They live like rats, they'll die like rats," yeah that's what he said,
"And if they didn't surrender, they'd all wind up dead."

Well the diggers they loved it, they laughed and they laughed,
"So we are the Rats with a capital R,"

It lifted their spirits, it saw them right through.

You fight for your freedom, that's just what you do.

So let's sing the praises of the Rats ofTobruk,

F or eight bitter months the sky and earth shook,
But the mighty Rats they would not bend nor fold,
And their motto was simple "What we have we hold."

So for eight bitter months from April to December,
The Rats fought a fight that we'll always remember,
These are the men, the men ofTobruk,

The men we call "Rats" the mighty Rats ofTobruk.

So let's sing the praises of the Rats ofTobruk,

F or eight bitter months the sky and earth shook,
But the mighty Rats they would not bend nor fold,
And their motto was simple "What we have we hold."
